Whoever thought to take a smoothie, make it thicc and put it in a bowl is my hero.
I won’t pretend there’s anything groundbreaking about this recipe, in fact, it’s just frozen fruit with a little fermented milk, but, it’s yum, it’s refreshing, and it’s a great base to tweak as you please.
While you can basically use any liquid – milk, nut milk, or even water – I like to use Filmjolk, a Swedish-style fermented milk with 15 live and active cultures and 50+ billion good bacteria per serve(!!!). It’s a little tart to taste and half way between milk and yogurt in texture, which makes it the perfect pairing with the sweetness of fruit.
Feel free to swap or drop the fruits and toppings to your taste or according to what you have on hand . As long as you stay more or less within the ratios, you can’t go wrong.
INGREDIENTS
SMOOTHIE
1 large frozen banana
1/2 cup frozen strawberries
1/2 cup frozen raspberries
1/2 cup frozen pitted cherries
3/4 cup natural Filmjolk
TOPPINGS
1/2 cup low-sugar granola
1/4 cup unsweetened desiccated coconut
Handful almonds
Honey
*Serves two.
INGREDIENTS
Place all the smoothie ingredients in a food processor or blender and process until smooth. You may need to add a little more Filmjolk if your blender is struggling, but try to keep it to a minimum if you want a thick consistency.
Transfer to bowls and top with granola, coconut, and almonds, and drizzle a little honey if desired.
Serve straight away before it melts!
